The Clinic - Canine Hydrotherapy
Visit our clinic, based at 8 Brownfields, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 1AN, offering both veterinary physiotherapy and canine hydrotherapy appointments. We have access to a wide range of physiotherapy equipment in-clinic and our canine underwater treadmill provides beneficial exercise to dogs during rehabilitation.

Benefits of the Underwater Treadmill (UWTM):
-
Low impact exercise for sore joints - buoyancy of the water allows the dog to move freely without the normal impact of day to day walking/exercise.
-
Improved joint mobility - Warm water improves circulation and increases the viscosity of synovial fluid within your pets joints allowing for improved joint range of motion.
-
Controlled, repetitive movement - The UWTM provides exercise in a structured way- the speed, water depth and incline can all be controlled by the therapist to ensure your pets safety.
-
Enhanced cardiovascular fitness - Walking against the resistance of the water can help to improve fitness for dogs that cannot tolerate high impact exercise.
-
Weight loss - The UWTM provides a good exercise environment for overweight dogs requiring exercise without the additional stress on their joints to help them reach their target weight.
-
Muscle building - Because your pet will be able to move more freely within the water and utilise more of their joint ROM, they will in turn activate muscles that they may not on the dry land which contributes to improved muscular strength.
-
Gait correction - Whilst exercising on the UWTM, your pet will always be in the tank with a trained canine hydrotherapist. Therefore, the therapist can adjust your pets gait, both through the speed of the treadmill and through manual gait patterning to ensure your dog moves to the best of their ability.
-
Pain reduction - Perhaps the most important benefit! Your dog should feel reduced pain whilst in the warm water due to increases in blood flow to any sore joints.
